We (High Noon, the turbocharged ILC-40 powered by North Sails) went into the second weekend of Manhasset Bay Fall Series tied for first. The weekend prediction for STRONG winds was mostly accurate. Saturday we came in third place, a disappointing result for us and putting us in second place overall two points behind the leader, John Thompson's Farr-40 Solution. We only had one race Saturday due to the high winds (lots of damage in the fleet, we ripped two of our sails).
Sunday before racing the race committee announced that there would only be one race, so we only had one chance at it. We raced well, hit 17 knots of boatspeed, and came in first place. But there was more to it than that, we needed the overall leader to come in third, so that we would end tied (then we could win on tiebreaks).
We had to wait over two minutes after we finished to see the result, finally in a VERY close finish (8 second differential) our luck held, the leader came in third, we won the overall regatta (well, our division anyway).
This was our last big regatta of the season. Thanks to our owners and my great teammates. I had fun and learned a few things in the process.
